A group of thieves thought they were getting away with their crimes before finding themselves suddenly trapped by police. Three criminals in California were caught on video buying expensive items with a stolen credit card and tossing more than a thousand dollars’ worth of shoes into the trunk of their car. But moments later, they were surrounded by multiple officers who were waiting for them.
Three thieves caught buying TV and $1,400 in shoes
On August 29 at around 12:30 p.m., officers responded to a call from WSS Shoes, a retail chain that sells apparel and athletic shoes, when employees caught three people trying to purchase $1,400 in merchandise with a stolen credit card, according to a post by the City of Corona Police Department on its official Facebook page.
Footage from various surveillance cameras shows the suspects carrying out a large-screen TV from what appears to be a Target earlier that day and then hauling three bags full of shoes from WSS into the trunk of their black vehicle. Unbeknownst to them, though, officers had already located the group with assistance from their Drone as First Responders team.
Bodycam video shows their vehicle getting blocked in its parking spot by an unmarked police car. About four officers then close in on the vehicle, thinking that the thieves might run away. But with no escape route, the thieves decide to surrender. The driver, a male passenger, and a female passenger are seen coming out of the vehicle with two of them being seen placed in handcuffs…
