Woman arrested after newborn found inside dumpster in rain, umbilical cord still attached

A Riverside woman has been arrested more than a year after a newborn baby was found inside a dumpster in the rain with its umbilical cord still attached, police announced Friday.

The baby was discovered at about 2:30 p.m. on May 4, 2025, after Riverside police received reports of an infant crying inside a dumpster enclosure at an apartment complex in the 3800 block of Jackson Street.

Responding officers found the newborn lying next to a dumpster, breathing and crying. The baby was uncovered and exposed to the rain, according to police.
