The Riverside County Sheriff’s Office, in collaboration with the Gang Intelligence Unit and Corrections Central Investigations Unit, concluded a successful investigation into a narcotics smuggling operation targeting the Cois Byrd Detention Center.
Initiated in December of 2023, the comprehensive probe uncovered a nefarious network involving inmates and an external individual facilitating the smuggling of fentanyl and methamphetamine into the detention facility, investigators said.
On January 26, 2024, the investigation reached a critical juncture as deputies executed search warrants in the city of Hemet with support from the Riverside Sheriff’s Alternative Sentencing Program and the Corrections K-9 Team.
The operation resulted in the confiscation of three handguns, several hundred rounds of ammunition, 2.1 grams of methamphetamine, 14 grams of cocaine, 16 grams of heroin, approximately $13,000 in cash, and evidence linked to check fraud. The swift and coordinated action led to the apprehension of four suspects.
