Human skeletal remains found in famed California national park; Forensic investigation underway

Deputies from the Palm Desert Sheriff’s Station responded to a concerning discovery at Joshua Tree National Park in Twentynine Palms on January 25, 2024, at 12:08 p.m.

Researchers alerted Federal Park Rangers to the presence of human skeletal remains found off a trail, prompting the Riverside County Sheriff’s Office and the Riverside County Coroner’s Bureau to launch an investigation.

The Coroner’s Bureau arrived at the scene and took charge of the ongoing investigation into the grim discovery.

As of now, the identity of the deceased and the cause of death remain unknown, and investigators are diligently working to uncover these crucial details, the sheriff’s office said.
