RIVERSIDE- In a harrowing incident at the Bank of America in the Mission Grove neighborhood of Riverside, an elderly woman narrowly escaped harm during an armed robbery on Monday afternoon.
At around 1:17 p.m on January 29, the victim, intending to make an ATM deposit of a substantial amount of cash, was accosted by two armed suspects in the bank’s vicinity. The assailants, wielding a handgun, demanded the victim’s money, leading to a struggle in which a gunshot was fired. Although the woman was fortunate to escape unharmed, she was taken to a local hospital for evaluation.
Quick-thinking witnesses provided a detailed description of the suspects and their getaway vehicle, a silver Kia sedan. Responding officers spotted the fleeing suspects on the southbound 215 Freeway, initiating a pursuit that extended into Moreno Valley.
The pursuit concluded when the suspects abandoned their vehicle, seeking refuge in an apartment complex on Cottonwood Avenue in Moreno Valley. After a tense 90-minute standoff, both suspects surrendered with the assistance of the Riverside County Sheriff’s Special Enforcement Bureau.
