Following a high-speed police pursuit collision in Fontana that gravely wounded two police officers and the driver of the car being pursued, a third San Bernardino adolescent passed away.
The driver—whose name has not been made public—refused to stop for a traffic stop on Saturday night, prompting a 20-second chase that saw speeds over 100 mph, according to authorities. Police stated in a statement on Monday that the driver of the white Nissan Sentra being pursued, Domonic Adams Jr., 14, and 15-year-old Robert Rias, 15, died at the scene after colliding with a patrol cruiser on Valley Boulevard and Cypress Avenue.
After the collision, the driver and another passenger were taken to the hospital. Omari Pitts, the passenger, was 15 years old when he passed away from his wounds.
Officials from the Rialto Unified School District verified on Monday that the three youths who passed away were pupils at Carter High School in the district.
The death of our three young pupils has devastated the district. At Carter High School and other schools where students and staff have been touched, social-emotional support for them started this morning and will continue. The district further hopes that the three survivors make a full recovery. Our educational community will face many challenges this week, but we are resilient,” a spokeswoman for the Rialto Unified School District, Syeda Jafri, said in a statement.
