Samuel Ibrahim Shearer, a 28-year-old from Riverside, has been released on bond after being arrested for a suspected DUI incident that resulted in a collision with a van carrying three Riverside County sheriff’s deputies. The crash occurred on Thursday when Shearer allegedly ran a red light at high speed and collided with the deputies’ vehicle.
Shearer was booked into the Robert Presley Jail on suspicion of felony driving under the influence causing great bodily injury but posted a $50,000 bond Friday morning, securing his release from the downtown Riverside detention facility. The incident led to the deputies sustaining injuries ranging from minor to major, although their names have not been disclosed. They were en route to a training exercise in a personal 2016 Toyota Sienna caravan at the time of the collision.
The California Highway Patrol (CHP), which took over the investigation due to the involvement of law enforcement personnel, reported that Shearer was driving his 2019 Chevrolet Silverado pickup westbound on Victoria Avenue at a high rate of speed. The deputies’ Toyota entered the intersection of Victoria and La Sierra Avenue on a green light, where Shearer’s pickup, failing to stop at the red light, struck the van on the driver’s side, causing significant damage.
