Volunteers wanted for food pantry in Garden Grove on October 12

Uplift Charity is looking for volunteers to work at its monthly food pantry in Garden Grove on October 12. The volunteer activity will take place on 9752 13th Street from 9:00 am to 1:00 pm. Those wishing to participate must register online.

Each volunteer will be called upon to put together 400 packages of more than 12 food staples, register people receiving the packages, hand out packages and clean up the area after the event.

Volunteers must be at least eight years old. Those younger than 16 will have to be accompanied by a parent.

More than 11 percent of Garden Grove residents live below the poverty level. Nearly 40 percent of adult Californians experience food insecurity, according to UCLA’s Center for Health Policy Research.

Founded in 2006, Uplift Charity is an Anaheim-based nonprofit organization. It describes itself as being guided by Zarat (alms), one of the core ideas of Islam.

“Our goal goes beyond simply being a source of funds for the underprivileged. We strive to assist in such a way that a struggling family no longer needs short-term assistance and instead gain the ability to sustain itself and prosper on its own strength,” says the organization.
