Person shot and killed in Coachella Saturday identified as 44-year-old resident

The person who was shot and killed early Saturday morning in Coachella has been identified as 44-year-old Roman Jr. Gamboa.

A Riverside County Sheriff’s Office press release on Sunday showed that Gamboa, a Coachella resident, died at 3:30 a.m. on Oct. 12 in the 85400 block of Cairo Street, Coachella.

Deputies found Gamboa with “apparent gunshot wounds” after receiving a call at 3:23 a.m. on Saturday for an assault with a deadly weapon in the 51-800 block of Shady Lane.

No arrests were made and an investigation is ongoing, according to a news release on Saturday.

Sgt. Wenndy Brito-Gonzalez, a public information officer with the sheriff’s office, said there is no additional information available about this incident in an email to The Desert Sun on Sunday.
