One person was pronounced dead at the scene of a three-vehicle crash along Highway 74 near Vista Point in Palm Desert.
The crash was reported at approximately 7:40 a.m.
The Riverside County coroner’s office identified the man killed in the
California Highway Patrol records indicated that the big rig was traveling “downbound” shortly after 7:30 a.m. Thursday when it lost control and overturned.
CHP officer David Torres told City News Service that the big rig crashed into a Chevrolet Silverado traveling in the opposite direction, the driver of which was pronounced dead at the scene. They were identified as Tristin Samuel Bourgeois, 27, of La Quinta.
No other injuries were reported.
The semi-truck blocked both lanes on the roadway, leading to a closure that lasted several hours. CHP reopened the highway by 1:40 p.m.
The investigation into the collision remains ongoing.
