Waves pull Jeep into ocean as rescuers work to save driver, California officials say

Officials in California rescued a person after they say ocean waves pulled in a Jeep.

Around 5:30 a.m. Dec 14., Newport Beach police and fire crews were called for reports of a vehicle in the water at Corona Del Mar Beach, according to a news release from the Newport Beach Fire Department.

Police arrived at the beach and rescued a person from the water “despite the challenging conditions caused by waves rolling the vehicle in the surf,” according to officials.

The driver was taken to a hospital to be treated, KTLA reported.

Heavy equipment was used to remove the Jeep from the water to be towed away, according to the Los Angeles Times.

“The teamwork and determination of all responders were critical in overcoming the hazards posed by the early morning surf,” officials said.

It’s still unclear what caused the vehicle to end up in the water. The condition of the driver has not been released.
