Authorities have identified four members of a High Desert family who died in a freeway car crash in Rialto last week, as the community rallied around the 5-year-old lone survivor of the wreck on his long road to recovery from severe injuries that required the amputation of both his arms, according to officials and loved ones.

The solo-vehicle crash took place about 4:45 p.m. Dec. 15 on the eastbound 10 Freeway, just east of Riverside Avenue, in Rialto, according to the California Highway Patrol.
The Toyota Camry the five people were riding in veered to the right side of the road, where it struck a tree stump and caught fire, officials said.
Several passers-by stopped and tried to help the victims out of the burning car, according to CHP logs and video recordings from the scene.

Edgar Rodriguez, 35, of Victorville; Ramiro Rodriguez, 60, of Victorville; Maria Benitez Ramos, 62, of Victorville; and Melinda Perez, 44, of Hesperia, died from their injuries at the scene, San Bernardino County coroner’s records show.
