Deputies responding to traffic crash find man killed by gunfire

Authorities are investigating after a man was found shot dead at the site of a vehicle collision over the weekend.

It happened in Moreno Valley Sunday around 7:20 p.m., according to the Riverside County Sheriff’s Office.

Deputies from the Moreno Valley Station responded to reports of a major traffic collision on the 13000 block of Leota Court, where they discovered a man who was dead from multiple gunshot wounds.

The scene was secured with crime tape, and the area was closed to vehicle and pedestrian traffic as authorities investigated. Homicide detectives have since taken over the case, but no additional information has been released.

In an update on Monday night, the sheriff’s office announced that investigators identified the victim as 41-year-old Donneal Eugene Jones, a resident of Banning.
