DUI driver arrested for fatal 3-vehicle crash in Riverside County

Police arrested a man accused of driving under the influence and causing a multiple-vehicle collision that resulted in a 75-year-old woman’s death on Saturday in Riverside County.

According to the Riverside Police Department’s preliminary investigation, it was just before 6:30 p.m. when a woman was driving her white 2005 Jeep Liberty eastbound on Collett Avenue in front of the DUI suspect who was driving a Toyota Tundra.

Investigators said as the woman slowed to make a left turn onto Stonewall Drive, the suspect rear-ended the Jeep, ultimately pushing her into oncoming lanes of traffic where she collided head-on with a red 2014 Toyota C-HR driven by a 70-year-old man from Riverside.

Calls of the three-vehicle crash soon came into the department, police said, and officers and fire personnel responded to the scene to find and treat three people for injuries.

First responders discovered that one of the drivers – the woman who was rear-ended – sustained life-threatening injuries and transported her to Riverside Community Hospital where she was pronounced dead. She was only identified as a 75-year-old resident of Riverside.
