During the first budget hearing of 2025 for the California Assembly, Governor Gavin Newsom’s office was subjected to questioning from assemblymembers with regard to the governor’s proposed budget.
Under questioning from Assemblyman Carl DeMaio, the governor’s office had to admit that it had miscalculated the real cost to taxpayers of providing free taxpayer-funded healthcare to illegal immigrants in California.
According to a statement from DeMaio, last year the governor’s office said these costs would total $6.5 billion, but now claim the true cost is $9.5 billion — a 46.2 percent increase from what was originally proposed.
“California taxpayers should be outraged that they face massive tax hikes in this budget while illegal immigrants are being given nearly $10 billion in free taxpayer-funded healthcare coverage,” DeMaio said…
