Mater Dei boys volleyball team wins first Division 2 Southern California Regional title since 2009, will play in inaugural CIF state final

SANTA ANA – Mater Dei made history in 2009 by capturing the inaugural Division 2 title in the Southern California Regional boys volleyball tournament.

The top-seeded Monarchs not only ended their 16-year regional championship drought Saturday against No. 2 Francis Parker, but also created another historic opportunity by advancing to the first Division 2 state final.

Jeremiah Potasi had a match-high 23 kills in only 32 attempts and contributed seven digs to lead host Mater Dei to a 25-12, 26-24, 19-25, 27-25 victory against the Lancers at Meruelo Athletic Center…
