Two students from Los Angeles County and one from Orange County will begin competing in the Scripps National Spelling Bee Tuesday in National Harbor, Maryland.
Kamya Balaji, Oliver Halkett and Sydney Tran will be asked to spell a word in the first round and correctly answer a vocabulary question in the second between 5 and 6:25 a.m. Pacific Daylight Time at the Gaylord National Resort & Convention Center. Spellers who advance from rounds one and two will take a written test from 2:15 to 3 p.m. Pacific Daylight Time.
