Late last week, Riverside County Department of Animal Services (RCDAS) issued an urgent call for help as its San Jacinto shelter reached 220% capacity. With four to five animals crammed into each kennel, conditions became increasingly inhumane, prompting the department to face the heartbreaking decision of euthanizing animals to create space.In response, RCDAS extended adoption hours at the San Jacinto shelter until midnight, encouraging residents to come forward to foster or adopt pets. Thanks to community support, 80 dogs and 19 cats were adopted from the San Jacinto location alone. Across all RCDAS shelters, a total of 113 dogs and 76 cats found homes.Despite this surge in adoptions, many animals remain on the shelter’s euthanasia list due to long stays and kennel stress. These animals need immediate fostering or adoption to prevent their euthanasia.
