Riverside County supervisors have scheduled a July 1 public hearing on a controversial proposal. The proposal would place $4.16 million in unpaid trash collection fees onto the property tax bills of nearly 7,000 residents. It affects people living in unincorporated areas of the county.Officials say residents owe anywhere from $150 to more than $10,000 for 2024 waste services. The move is aimed at recovering costs for basic sanitation services.County leaders argue the assessment is essential to maintain public health standards. However, not everyone agrees with the plan. Some residents say they’ve handled their own waste disposal.Others claim they were never properly billed in the first place. Those who settle their accounts by July 25 can avoid an additional $82-per-parcel administrative fee.The hearing is expected to draw pushback from residents concerned about fairness and transparency.Supervisors say they’ll weigh all public input before making a final decision.
