Riverside County Launches Annual Crackdown on Illegal Fireworks

Riverside County has launched its annual campaign to crack down on the sale and use of illegal fireworks. The effort began Monday and aims to target suppliers, distributors, and those purchasing banned fireworks throughout the county.Last year’s enforcement resulted in nearly 400 citations and 10 arrests on misdemeanor charges related to the transport of illegal fireworks. County agencies, including local law enforcement and fire officials, are now ramping up patrols and investigations ahead of the Fourth of July holiday.While most fireworks remain illegal throughout the region, “safe and sane” fireworks are permitted in select cities, including Coachella, Desert Hot Springs, and Indio. Approved devices include sparklers, fountains, and snappers—products that do not explode or fly into the air.Residents are urged to be cautious and report any illegal fireworks activity.
