Washington man arrested for child exploitation may have victims in Southern California

A man from Washington was arrested after an extensive child exploitation investigation, which revealed there may be more victims in two other regions, including Southern California, authorities said.

According to a Washington State Patrol media release, 34-year-old Andre Smolyar was booked into the Spokane County Jail on four charges:

  • Promoting a suicide attempt
  • Possession of depictions
  • Viewing depictions of a minor engaged in sexually explicit conduct
  • Communication with a minor for immoral purposes

Digital and physical evidence was recovered during the investigation that revealed Smolyar, a Spokane resident, may have committed additional forcible sexual assaults against minors, state police in Washington said.

“Detectives have further determined that Smolyar operated under multiple online identities, which he may have used to communicate with minors,” Washington state police said.

The investigation into Smolyar also indicated there may be additional victims in Colorado Springs, Colorado, as well as Orange County, California…
