Restaurant inspections: Cockroach infestations close 2 Coachella Valley eateries

A number of Coachella Valley eateries were downgraded or closed by Riverside County health inspectors this week, according to reports.

Hibachi Japanese Steakhouse in Rancho Mirage was shut down by inspectors due to evidence of an active cockroach infestation. Inspectors found live and dead roaches throughout the facility, including under two grills and by the sushi bar. The facility will remain closed until all vermin have been removed from the facility and all contaminated areas have been properly cleaned and sanitized.

Additionally, Quality Inn & Suites in Indio and Thai Smile in Palm Desert both received “B” grades during their most recent inspections due to a number of violations, including improper hot and cold food holding temperatures, improper handwashing techniques and dead roaches found in the Palm Desert facility.
