Riverside County Deputies Exchange Fire in French Valley Domestic Incident, Suspect Dead, Woman and Child Hospitalized

Early Monday morning, a deputy-involved shooting occurred in French Valley following a domestic violence incident. According to a press release by the Riverside County Sheriff’s Department, deputies arrived at a residence on Shadow Drive after receiving reports of a man armed and assaulting a woman, and preventing her from leaving with her child. Upon deputies’ arrival at approximately 2:46 a.m., they were fired upon from a second-story window, which led to the deputies returning fire.

The incident escalated when, after making announcements for the occupants of the home to come outside, an exchange of gunfire ensued. No deputies were injured, but the female victim emerged from the residence shortly afterwards with injuries and a child in tow. She reported to the authorities that her husband had shot her before turning the gun on himself.

The woman was promptly taken to a hospital in critical but stable condition; her child was also hospitalized for an evaluation. Law enforcement confirmed the suspect’s death inside the home, though his identity has not been disclosed at this time. In line with their policy, the deputies involved in the shooting have been placed on paid administrative leave while an investigation is underway. The Riverside County District Attorney’s Office, alongside other investigators, is leading this effort, with no further details being made available as of yet…
