The Laguna Beach City Council approved a new Library Capital Improvement Plan, developed with Orange County, during its recent council meeting.
The plan details four “near-term” improvements at Laguna Beach Library, totaling $750,000. The four improvements, selected based on direction from Orange County and shared priorities from the city, are the following:
- HVAC System Replacement — Estimated Cost: $200,000
- Earthquake-Compliant Shelving — Estimated Cost: $200,000
- Furniture, Fixtures, Equipment, Carpet and Paint — $225,000
- Lighting Improvements — $125,000
The city is fully funding these projects from its Library Purchase Price Principal. Its balance is at $4.29 million, and the city is programming the remaining funding towards “aspirational improvements” developed alongside Orange County staff. The proposed aspirational projects include long-term goals such as Americans with Disabilities Act accessibility upgrades for its restrooms, public spaces and workshops, the creation of a dedicated teenager space and technology enhancements.
The Laguna Beach Library is owned and operated by Orange County Public Libraries. However, the city owns the land the library is on. The improvements to the library will require review and approval from the county…
