Moulton Museum: Hub of South OC history positions itself as a preservation beacon for local historical societies

In March 2025, the Moulton Museum and the Saddleback Area Historical Society (SAHS) signed a Memorandum of Understanding, officially joining forces to solidify their collective goal of preserving South Orange County’s history.

The memorandum constitutes an agreement to share facilities and resources and to ensure the proper storage of SAHS artifacts at the Moulton Museum, located in Laguna Hills. The partnership of these two independent nonprofits promises expansion for both parties to the agreement.

“The main mission has been to preserve the local area history,” said SAHS co-president Frank Sanchez. “Obviously, every town has history, but this area in South Orange County is very unique, and there’s certain components that have disappeared or are disappearing real quickly. So, I want to continue to revive it, investigate, find other resources that have been forgotten, and keep them front and center for the future generations that are here.”

Sanchez, born and raised in South OC, has witnessed many changes over the years. As a member of SAHS for two years before being appointed co-president, Sanchez emphasized the society’s eagerness to initiate preservation efforts. Through SAHS and Moulton Museum’s collaboration, their collective abilities can continue to inform the people, local and visiting, that there is always a story to be told — and, in Orange County’s case, quite a unique one…
