The Riverside County Department of Animal Services has launched a new pre-adoption program allowing visitors to reserve dogs still serving their legally required stray hold period. The “DIBS for Dogs” program, which began September 2, enables potential adopters to claim a dog before its hold period expires. If the original owner doesn’t reclaim the animal, the reserved dog goes home with the adopter immediately when the hold ends. How the Program WorksVisitors must come to one of the county’s four shelter locations in person to participate. After selecting a dog on stray hold, staff verify the adopter’s eligibility and complete the reservation process. The adopter then returns on the specified date to take their new pet home. The program addresses critical overcrowding at county shelters, which currently house more than 1,000 dogs. More animals enter the system daily than leave through adoption, lost pet reunification, foster care, or transfers.”We are focusing on solutions that help…..
