Southern California man charged after deadly assault in Temecula

A Temecula man has died following an assault in the roadway late Saturday night, and authorities have arrested a suspect in connection with the incident, the Riverside County Sheriff’s Office reported.

According to deputies, a routine patrol from the Southwest Sheriff’s Station led to the discovery of 35-year-old George Fresquez IV lying unresponsive in the roadway of Pechanga Parkway near Wolf Valley Road at 11:50 p.m. on September 6. Deputies immediately rendered medical aid, but Fresquez succumbed to traumatic injuries consistent with being struck by a vehicle and was pronounced dead at the scene.

Investigators determined that Fresquez had initially been assaulted in the roadway and left incapacitated before being hit by a vehicle traveling south on Pechanga Parkway. The driver of the vehicle cooperated with authorities and was later released. Alcohol did not appear to be a factor in the collision, the sheriff’s office said…
