RivCo Animal Shelter Lawsuit Moves Forward with Hayden Act Claims

An ongoing lawsuit against Riverside County Animal Services took another step forward this week. Attorney Dan Bolton, who represents community members in the case, provided an update on where things stand.Bolt explained that the court heard arguments regarding claims of wasteful taxpayer spending and will issue a ruling soon. “We were back in court today. The court was hearing our waste of taxpayer claims in the case and listened to arguments on both sides. We’ll make a ruling shortly and move forward,” Bolt said.Filed in August 2024, the lawsuit challenges both county spending decisions and the shelter’s compliance with the Hayden Act, which requires adequate records and medical care for shelter animals. The Hayden Act claims will proceed to trial.The waste claims focus on two controversial county hires: a $2.5 million contract with consultant Kristen Hassan, which Bolt said was overpriced compared to similar work in Los Angeles, and the hiring of Erin Geddes as animal services…..
