A truck driver has pleaded not guilty in the murder of a woman in California while serving a 40 year sentence for the murder of a Texas woman.
The now 71-year-old truck driver, Douglas Thomas, was arrested in 2022 after DNA evidence linked him to a 1992 murder of a woman in Titus County, Texas. Thomas worked as a truck driver for 40 years prior to his arrest. He has since been convicted of that murder and is serving a 40 year sentence with the potential for life in prison in the Texas Department of Criminal Justice.
According to the Riverside District Attorney’s Office, Investigators then linked Thomas’ DNA to the murder of 30-year-old Sherri Herrera. Herrera was found on the eastbound Hayfield Road on ramp to Interstate 10 in Desert Center, California in 1993.
