In December, the United States will welcome its first all-electric hospital, UCI Health — Irvine, located in Irvine. This groundbreaking facility is set to open on December 10 and will feature a 144-bed capacity within a seven-story, 350,000-square-foot building. Situated next to the San Joaquin Marsh, the hospital aims to merge high technology with thoughtful design to promote healing and comfort.
The hospital is part of a $1.3 billion medical campus that includes a cancer center and ambulatory care building. It will serve residents of central, coastal, and south Orange County, offering specialties such as cancer care, cardiology, and neurosciences. The facility will operate without carbon fuels, relying entirely on electricity generated onsite or procured from sustainable sources.
