Riverside County Animal Services will soon cost more for seven Coachella Valley cities. The Board of Supervisors has approved a 5% annual increase through 2028.City officials say they expected the rise and still consider the partnership a good value, especially as the county continues efforts to become a no-kill system — a goal that comes with higher operating costs.Palm Desert leaders say running animal services in-house would be far more expensive and that contracting with the county remains the best deal for taxpayers. The rate increases will help cover additional county staff, animal impounds, and other key services. Desert Hot Springs and Palm Springs are the only valley cities that do not contract with Riverside County Animal Services.
