Deputies from the Lake Elsinore Sheriff’s Station recently conducted an enforcement operation targeting illegal electric motorcycles after reports of property damage and safety concerns across the city.The November 5 operation, supervised by Sergeant Brad Foster, was launched in response to a rise in illegal, off-road-only electric motorcycles being operated on public streets. Officials say riders have caused thousands of dollars in damage to local parks and contributed to an increase in collisions involving both electric motorcycles and electric bicycles.During the operation, deputies stopped six electric motorcycles and several electric bicycles. The electric motorcycle riders received citations, and their motorcycles were impounded.Authorities are reminding the public that electric motorcycles — which do not have pedals and are designed for off-highway use — must be registered properly and cannot be operated on public roadways.
