Commercial Vehicle Checkpoint Uncovers Multiple Violations in Riverside

RIVERSIDE, CA — The Riverside Police Department’s Traffic Bureau recently conducted a commercial vehicle inspection checkpoint on Central Avenue in response to ongoing community complaints. The operation, which focused on westbound lanes just west of Victoria Avenue, targeted violations of the Riverside Municipal Code regarding vehicle weight and size restrictions on specific city streets.

During the checkpoint, 16 commercial vehicles were inspected. The results included 57 violations of the Riverside Municipal Code axle restriction for vehicles with three or more axles operating on restricted roadways. Additionally, officers issued two violations for improper use of air brakes and two violations for bald tires. One driver was cited for operating unlicensed. The operation also resulted in one commercial vehicle and trailer being towed.

Section 10.56.050 of the Riverside Municipal Code restricts commercial vehicles exceeding three axles on designated streets, including Central Avenue between Alessandro Boulevard and State Route 91, and Arlington Avenue between Horace Street and Chicago Avenue. Exceptions are noted for vehicles making necessary deliveries or pickups within a block.
