Thanksgiving forecast: Sunshine for Southern California, rain possible this weekend

Mostly clear and dry conditions with some gusty winds are forecast to continue through Thanksgiving Day for most of Southern California before a chance of rain arrives over the weekend.

“Many of us will wake up to morning clouds, but we do get sunshine today (Monday), and we have a beautiful Thanksgiving forecast,” KTLA meteorologist Henry DiCarlo said. “High pressure is moving in, and high pressure is our friend if you want sunshine.”

Thanksgiving outlook:

  • Downtown Los Angeles: 76 degrees with some clouds
  • Las Vegas: 68 degrees and partly cloudy
  • Laguna Beach: 73 degrees and partly cloudy
  • Palm Springs: 81 degrees with some clouds

A weak to moderate Santa Ana wind event is expected to arrive Tuesday through Thanksgiving Day, according to the National Weather Service (NWS). Wind advisories will be possible for Santa Ana wind-prone areas and across parts of the Santa Monica Mountains from late Tuesday into Wednesday afternoon.

“The high pressure will move on out of here as we get to the weekend,” Henry said. “That will open the door for an area of low pressure to get close enough, and perhaps bring us a chance of rain late Saturday into Sunday.”…
