A 65-year-old convicted child molester and third-striker, Gary Blane Bentley, was sentenced to 25 years to life in prison following a brutal attack on his wife in their La Palma apartment. According to the Orange County District Attorney’s Office, Bentley’s latest conviction included two felony counts of corporal battery on a spouse resulting in a traumatic condition, with the sentencing taking place earlier this month.
On June 24, 2022, Bentley assaulted his wife, who managed to escape and seek help from her neighbors while covered in blood and nearly nude. This incident reflected a longstanding pattern of unreported domestic violence. At the time of the attack, Bentley was on parole after serving six years for an indecent exposure conviction in Los Angeles County; thus, the law finally closed its grip around him once more.
Bentley had a chilling history of violent crimes, according to the district attorney’s office. His criminal record includes a conviction for attempted murder in 1982 when he attacked his then-girlfriend and her daughter, and another in 1990 for continuous sexual assault of a child under 14.
