Highlights, recap: Trent Mosley puts on a show as No. 6 Santa Margarita runs away from No. 2 Corona Centennial 42-7 in Southern Section final

No. 6 Santa Margarita (Rancho Santa Margarita) showed off its stifling defense and Trent Mosley put on a Heisman-like performance in a 42-7 win over No. 2 Centennial (Corona) on Friday in California’s Southern Section Division 1 title game at the Rose Bowl.

The 2002 Heisman Trophy winner at USC, Santa Margarita head coach Carson Palmer saw his future Trojan receiver put up video-game numbers. Mosley was all of the team’s offense in the first quarter with 168 yards from scrimmage and both scores as the Eagles raced to a 14-0 lead.

Mosley finished with 299 yards receiving on 10 catches and four scores, two on the ground in addition to TD catches of 80 and 91 yards.

The senior wideout got Santa Margarita (10-3) on the board with a two-yard TD run after his 65-yard catch set the Eagles up. On their next possession, Mosley caught a Trace Johnson pass and took it 80 to the house. The Tulane commit quarterback was 14 of 20 for 292 yards and three touchdown passes in the first half.
