A 63-year-old La Quinta man died Tuesday while hiking the Boo Hoff Trail, according to Riverside Cal Fire.Mountain bikers discovered Michael Pavelec unconscious approximately 2.5 miles up the La Quinta Cove path around 10 a.m. Tuesday. The bikers reported the hiker was still breathing when they found him.First responders required aerial assistance from the Riverside County Sheriff’s aviation unit to reach Pavelec due to the trail’s inaccessible terrain. Despite rescue efforts, he died on the trail shortly after 11 a.m.The Riverside County Sheriff’s Department released Pavelec’s identity later Tuesday. The cause of death has not been disclosed, and the investigation remains ongoing.
