Southern California officer hit by ‘shrapnel’ after gunfire during arrest, police say

A Riverside Police Department officer was wounded by shrapnel while making an arrest Wednesday evening.

As detailed by the Press-Enterprise, the officer, whose identity was not released, was responding to a reported mental-health crisis near University and Dwight avenues just after 6 p.m.

At that location, a man was reportedly jumping on top of cars and causing a ruckus when, at some point, a gun was fired…
