Gusty Santa Ana winds bring downed trees, damage to cities across SoCal

Just days after a Christmas downpour, the Santa Ana winds are gusting in parts of Southern California, causing damage and downed trees for some.

The Santa Ana winds were violent and destructive on Monday. In Moorpark, California Highway Patrol shut down part of SR-118 after a tree fell into power lines.

In Orange County, a palm tree fell on top of a car with two women inside. One of the women was injured, through further details on her condition were not immediately available.

“We were stopped at a stoplight. We were maybe five or six cars behind the light, and all of a sudden, we were starting to go, and the tree fell right on top of us from the right-hand side, from the hotel side,” one of the women said.

In Buena Park, a canopy lifted out of someone’s backyard and got caught in the power lines. The fire department responded to the scene.

“If you see anything caught up in the power lines, move inside,” said Quinn Collison with Orange County Fire. “Do your due diligence, call 911.”…
