CHP Launches New Year’s DUI Enforcement Campaign Across Inland Empire, Statewide

California Highway Patrol officers will ramp up enforcement beginning Wednesday night as part of a statewide New Year’s campaign targeting drunken and drug-impaired driving, including intensified patrols throughout the Inland Empire.The CHP’s annual New Year’s Holiday Enforcement Period (HEP) begins at 6 p.m. Wednesday, deploying all available officers to monitor freeways, highways, and unincorporated roads for impaired drivers, speeders, and other traffic violators. The enforcement effort will run through late Thursday night and mirrors a 30-hour operation conducted over the Christmas holiday.Officers from CHP stations in Riverside, Blythe, Indio, San Gorgonio Pass, and Temecula will be assigned to Inland Empire roadways during the enforcement period.According to the CHP, the 2024–25 New Year’s HEP resulted in 481 DUI arrests statewide, down from 892 arrests during the 2023–24 campaign.
