Former Orange County resident found guilty of threatening judge

SANTA ANA, California — A jury has found 34-year-old Byrom Zuniga Sanchez, formerly of Laguna Niguel, guilty of threatening to kill a superior court judge involved in his family law case. Sanchez, who was residing in Mexico at the time, has been in federal custody since February 2024.

From May 2023 to July 2023, Sanchez sent multiple death threats via email to the judge, as well as threats to harm other judges, lawyers, and law enforcement officials, according to evidence presented at a three-day trial. In one email from July 2023, Sanchez wrote, “I am more committed to murdering you than I am to being present as a father,” and further stated, “You’re already dead. The remainder of my life will be dedicated to assassinating judges, attorneys, and a police station’s entire shift staff.”

The threatening communications were sent via interstate commerce, and law enforcement believes Sanchez was in Mexico at the time. He was arrested in San Diego in February 2024 after attempting to enter the United States, according to the FBI, which investigated the case…
