Millions warned to stay indoors as brutal March heat hits Southern California

A rare winter heat wave is headed to parts of Southern California by the end of the week, prompting a heat advisory affecting more than 5 million people in the state.

The National Weather Service warned Californians that temperatures will likely reach unusually early-season highs, pushing them into the 90s across Southern California.

The heat advisory is currently expected to last 34 hours, from Thursday morning at 10 a.m. to Friday evening at 8 p.m., though it could expand as the weather event unfolds.
