An Orange County man died after being bitten by a venomous rattlesnake while mountain biking.

Julian Hernandez, of Costa Mesa, was mountain biking at Quail Hill Trailhead on Feb. 1 around 11 a.m. local time when he was bitten, according to local outlet KTLA.

NBC affiliate KNBC-TV said Hernandez —who was an Eagle Scout — tried to bike to safety after the bite, but was soon overcome by the effects of the venom. Authorities who responded to the scene then transferred him to the hospital, where he fell into a coma and was placed in the ICU…
