Remains of missing Riverside County man identified; suspect found dead

A Riverside County missing persons case has morphed into a homicide investigation after detectives’ primary suspect was discovered deceased from an apparent self-inflicted gunshot wound earlier this month and the victim was found dead over the weekend.

Deputies with the Riverside County Sheriff’s Department’s Southwest Station began investigating the disappearance of 61-year-old Pauma Valley resident Francisco “Frank” Torres one day after his family reported him missing on May 12, sheriff’s officials said in a news release.

Investigators later found Torres’ vehicle abandoned near a local park in Temecula and, based on evidence discovered at the scene, turned the case over to the sheriff’s department’s Central Homicide Unit…
