EAST TEXAS (KTRE) – A Flood Watch has been dropped for our northern counties, but still remains in effect for Angelina, Jasper, Nacogdoches, Newton, Polk, Sabine, San Augustine, Trinity, and Tyler counties through Thursday. The main flood risks will be for the low-lying, flood prone areas that receive repeated, tropical rains on already saturated grounds in the next couple of days.
This Flood Watch extension has everything to do with the advisories being issued on Potential Storm One, located near Corpus Christi. This tropical disturbance may very well become our first named storm of the 2026 Atlantic Hurricane Season.
This tropical disturbance will track parallel to the Texas coastline in the next 48 hours. Its proximity to the coast will ultimately determine our rain odds and rainfall amounts here in east Texas. The consensus models take the center of the storm close to the coastline or just offshore. If this pans out, we will not get much rain from this system. If it tracks a bit further inland, then our rainfall amounts will go higher…
