SAN ANTONIO — The latest Weather Prediction Center update brought a major change to the flooding rain outlook for south and southeast Texas tonight. Bexar County was nearly removed from the excessive rain outlook after rain arrived later than expected and pushed farther east. A Moderate Risk, level 3 of 4, now stretches from Corpus Christi and Victoria north through Gonzales, Round Top, and Bryan. Rain chances remain for San Antonio into the Friday commute, but totals may be far lighter than first expected.
San Antonio Nearly Removed From Flooding Rain Outlook
The updated outlook shows the threat for heavy, flooding rain shifting away from Bexar County through early Friday. San Antonio now sits near the western edge of the risk area, with only a marginal threat nearby.
The change came after rain took longer to develop and moved farther east than forecast. Earlier storms may have also worked over the atmosphere, reducing the energy available for additional heavy rain.
Moderate Risk Targets Victoria, Gonzales, and Round Top
The highest concern now covers a corridor from Corpus Christi and Refugio through Victoria, Gonzales, and Round Top. That Moderate Risk zone continues northeast toward Bryan and the I-45 corridor.
A Moderate Risk means numerous instances of flash flooding are possible. Rural roads, low water crossings, creeks, and small streams in this zone face the greatest risk through early Friday.
Houston and Coastal Areas Under Slight Risk
A Slight Risk, level 2 of 4, covers Houston, Cleveland, Brazosport, and nearby areas closer to the coast. Austin also sits along the edge of the slight risk area…
