Aransas Pass Council Meeting Descends Into Chaos, Again

It’s too cold to even imagine swimming outside, but spring will be here before you know it and the City of Aransas Pass needs to fix leaks in three pools that make up the Aquatics Center here at Community Park. The City Council was asked to let the Parks & Recreation Department issue a Request for Proposals (RFP) to determine how much a contractor would charge replastering each of the pools, uncertain the municipality had enough money in the current budget to plug all the leaks this season.

A citizen comment section is built into the agenda for Aransas Pass City Council meetings, anyone wishing to speak, and on any topic, normally allotted at least three minutes, uninterrupted, assuming they don’t get out of hand. Some who’ve addressed the council in the past have quickly lost that privilege, making inflammatory accusations, shouting, even using expletive curses directed at elected officials. In each case, the speaker is usually ejected, asked to leave, and escorted outside by armed police.
