A new dog park is in town. Here’s where it is.

The countdown for the opening of a new dog park is over.

Opened Wednesday, the Sherwood Dog Park – located at 4100 Linden St. – will be the third of the popular city-owned recreational spaces dedicated to canines and their owners, with another two on the way.

Construction of Sherwood Dog Park – which includes among its amenities a section for large dogs and a section for small dogs – cost about $400,000, according to city officials.

Two new dog parks are also planned for Parker’s Park in Flour Bluff and West Guth Park on the city’s Northwest side.

Construction on both is anticipated to be complete this year, according to city officials.

Existing city-owned dog parks are located at Bill Witt Park on the city’s Southside and Water’s Edge Park downtown.

Sherwood Dog Park will be open from 7:30 a.m. to 10 p.m. Tuesdays, from 6 a.m. to 10 p.m. Wednesday through Sunday and closed for maintenance on Mondays, according to a news release.
