Mexican Mafia gang member sentenced for felony possession of firearm

McAllen, Texas ( Border Report ) — A convicted felon who is a member of the notorious Mexican Mafia gang has been sentenced for again possessing firearms, U.S. Attorney Alamdar Hamdani said.

Alonso Guerrero Garcia, 40, pleaded guilty in November, Hamdani said Tuesday.

A judge in Corpus Christi, Texas, sentenced him to 10 years in prison.

Evidence presented in court this week included information that Guerrero in June used the firearm to “forcibly abduct two individuals at gunpoint,” according to a news release.

Prosecutors say Guerrero was apprehended after a traffic stop on a vehicle speeding the wrong way down a one-way street on June 3 in Corpus Christi.

He was in the rear seat of the vehicle where authorities discovered a Springfield Armor Champion 9mm pistol with gold grips and Aztec markings under the driver’s seat of the vehicle.
