Jerry Randal Haskins, 68, known to most as ‘Randy’, retired from serving in law enforcement in New Mexico and Texas, a career that spanned more than 30 years. Living in Aransas Pass he’s closely watched the actions of the City Council and elected municipal leaders, growing frustrated and disillusioned. When the five-member panel moved to obtain a $16-million loan to pay for a new fire station and renovation of police headquarters and bypass voters on the decision, he had enough, expecting to appear on the May 4th ballot to fill the Place 4 council seat, whether Vickie Abrego decides to run again.

Earlier this month, Haskins underwent a procedure to add another metal plate in his neck, the result of a degenerative bone disease that left him bedridden until he could get back on his feet. He did so just before January 17th, the day he picked up paperwork at City Hall to run for public office.

Working in New Mexico, Haskins met his wife, Ramona (right), who also retired from law enforcement. Randy’s background is extensive, from narcotics and gang interdiction, to handling a police K-9.
